Allergies During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, women’s bodies and skins are very sensitive to any factor. For this reason, problems of allergies during pregnancy can occur, and they can differ in every woman. In pregnancy, the immune system of the mother is naturally suppressed. This is important in order not to perceive the growing baby in the womb as an allergen.

  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Headache
  • Sneezing
  • Itchy watery eyes
  • Itching in the ears
  • Itching in the throat
  • Rash

Allergies in pregnancy can increase the occlusion of the blood vessels in the sinuses. This is because the amount of fluid circulating in the body increases. It also may cause nasal obstruction. This discomfort, known as pregnancy rhinitis, can last throughout the entire pregnancy.

 

Causes of Allergies During Pregnancy

Dust may cause allergies in the mother’s body. Therefore, it is important that the environment is cleaned frequently. Also, the products and electrical appliances used should not emit any odor.

Cigarette is another allergenic substance. It is also very dangerous in terms of baby’s health as well as the allergy. Therefore, if the mother is smoking, she must leave after being pregnant and stay away from smoking environments.

Some pregnant women may have allergies to flower pollen. The effect of these allergies can be increased especially in spring and autumn months. They may occur during pregnancy, even if there are no such allergies before. This situation is quite normal.

Expectant mothers may also have allergies to some foods. They should be avoided. It is better to take vitamins and other substances in allergenic foods from other nutrients.

 

 

Treatment of Allergies During Pregnancy

In your pregnancy, you should be very careful in the treatment of a allergy. Drugs used during pregnancy are likely to cause harm to the baby. Particularly, some of the drugs used in the treatment of allergies are known to be in the risk group. For this reason, pregnant women should consult to a specialist for allergy treatment and use the drugs under expert control. The choice of medications used for treatment and its dosage should be left to the doctor’s decision completely.

To prevent allergies, pregnant women can avoid allergic nutrients. Strawberries, tomatoes, eggs, peanuts are among the foods that cause allergic reactions. Not consuming these foods may reduce the likelihood of any allergies during pregnancy.
