Complications of Measles in Children

Measles can cause some complications. But if you properly follow the instructions given by your doctor and your child is not exposed to any other infection besides measles, none of these problems will occur.


Possible complications of measles:

  • Ear infection.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Bronchitis.
  • Pneumonia.
  • Very severe cases of measles may result in encephalitis. Encephalitis is the swelling of the brain due to acute inflammation. It is very dangerous and can cause irreversible damage.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Measles in Children

The most important factor in the treatment of measles is the healthy nutrition and relaxation of the patient. It is very important to feed the patient with foods rich in vitamins and provide hygiene of these foods.

The patient should rest in a bright and clean room. The room should be constantly ventilated. Otherwise, the germs start to spread more. Nutrition of the patient during treatment has a huge importance. So, the patient should consume plenty of fluid and focus on the consumption of milk and milk products. At the same time, you should pay attention to the meat consumption and prefer foods rich in vitamin C.

It is a 2-dose vaccine. The first dose should be vaccinated in babies from the 12th month to the 15th month. The second dose is between the ages of 4-6 years. After two doses, you get approximately 99% protection against measles. The measles vaccine is not used on pregnant women. Persons who have not had measles disease before should be vaccinated before pregnancy. The vaccine has no side effects. However, any side effects associated with the person’s body will be very mild and unimportant.
